Smile Network International funds surgical missions and provides necessary supplies needed to repair birth defects, with a focus on cleft lips, cleft palates and other conditions requiring surgical intervention such as burns, tumors or other genetic defects.

The surgeries are free of charge and are available to children who would otherwise go untreated. For as little as $500 per surgery, a child who once lived with shame, will be given the gift of a happier and healthier life.

The mission of Smile Network International is straightforward:

To reconstruct lives...one bright, smiling face at a time.

KIM VALENTINI: FOUNDER

kim@smilenetwork.org

Kim founded Smile Network International in May of 2003 after 25 years in public relations and marketing. Kim left the corporate arena to do what she believes is her life’s work. Her travels with Smile Network have taken her to the far corners of the earth and off the beaten path. She has met with dignitaries of foreign countries, traveled to remote, poverty-stricken villages, and met hundreds of families and children along the way whose lives have been changed as a result of the free reconstructive surgeries.

Kim has been honored for her work with Smile Network as a KARE11 “Eleven Who Care” award recipient and Crave Cares "Be the Change" award, recognizing local volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty. Additionally Kim has served as a panelist for United States Senate Subcommittee hearings on US - Latin American relations. The work of Smile Network International has been featured on National Network Affiliates, Minnesota Monthly magazine, Mpls/St. Paul magazine and Time magazine.

Kim resides in Minneapolis with her family. Her children, Gino and Isabella are the inspiration for her work.

SARA WINTHEISER: OPERATIONS MANAGER

sara@smilenetwork.org

Sara started as an intern at Smile Network focusing on communication outreach. Upon graduation from University of St. Thomas with her Master of Business Administration, she joined the Smile Network team full time as the Operations Manager where she handles mission coordination and the organization’s accounting.

Prior to returning to school for her masters, Sara spent a year in Baq’uba, Iraq with the United States Army as a Civil Affairs Sergeant. During her deployment, she engaged the local teachers, doctors and political figures to ensure the political-economic needs of the people were being met. She also had the opportunity to participate in several humanitarian aid drops of school supplies, blankets, and toys for the children.

When not at work, Sara enjoys spending time with friends and family – especially with her Cockapoo, Teddy, on a run!

MAUREEN CAHILL: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

maureen@smilenetwork.org

Maureen joined Smile Network as the Executive Director in 2012 where her responsibilities include day-to-day operations, marketing, public relations and fundraising. For the past seven years, she served on Smile Network’s Board of Directors, volunteered her time and participated on several missions with the organization. One of the mission sites that is dear to her heart is Guatemala, where she had a hand in it becoming a Smile Network mission site after hosting exchange students from Guatemala.

Maureen has more than 20 years of experience in business management, leadership, marketing and public relations. She was co-founder and partner of McFarland Cahill Communications, a public relations agency specializing in national and local media relations for the last ten years working with corporations, entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations. Prior to that, she was the Director of Public Relations for Mall of America and worked in TV news for media outlets including KSTP-TV and the NBC Today Show.

Maureen lives in Prior Lake with her husband, Paul, and their black lab, Duke. They have recently become “empty nesters” with both daughters off to college and are excited for this new chapter in their lives.
